When I travel, I get per diem for meals – Houston’s isn’t great, but it’ll buy some Pappadeaux! Yummo! It’s not much fun to do without Chelsea, but earlier this week I took a walk on the boardwalk that overlooks a bay. My phone doesn’t take very good pics, so they couldn’t even begin to express the beauty of God’s creation at sunset on the Gulf of Mexico.
I’m counting down the hours till I fly out (though GMA this morning said to expect delays in Houston). It’s been a long week working 10-12 hour days (I’m not used to staring at training documents that long in one day – 113 hours this pay period), but this weekend makes my first vacation since launching UC. We’re taking advantage of the 3-day weekend!
Chel starts her job on Tuesday!
Woohoo!

Just one more day till I see my love again. This will make the longest trip I’ve made without her since we were srs in high school. She’s pickin’ me up at the airport! Woohoo!
It’s rained every day in Houston, but that’s been nice coming off the dry spell in Nash. I’ve enjoyed my Mustang, but I’m ready to see my wife.

I was eating dinner tonight when the guy at the table next to me began to rant and rave (he was little red faced) about the solution to the problems in Africa…”let them die.” He began to suggest that everyone quit sending aid to Africa and just let all of those who can’t be supported by the food and water currently available, die.
Don’t get me wrong, in the past I’ve been one to be harsh about immigration and foreign aid, but recently the Lord has really convicted me about justice – what’s right and what’s wrong. I may not think it’s the best idea for our government to spend billions when it’s already trillions in the hole, I must say that there’s no justice in letting people die. I must thank our friend Darwin once again for spreading the infection of “survival of the fittest” into our culture from top to bottom.
How stupid! Just let them die! Chelsea and I have in the past (though we don’t right now) supported an organization that taught local villagers in Africa to establish wells with clean water.
While I’m listening to this man rant and rave, I read a story on my phone. Leona Helmsley left $12M to her dog and $3M to make sure her tomb is whitewashed yearly. I wonder how many wells could be dug with that money. I wonder if maybe we have our priorities out of line…

I’m not a car officiando by any stretch of the imagination, but who couldn’t resist bragging on this one. Our company uses Avis for rental cars, and I usually end up with some boat to drive that looks like a rental car…this one, though, this was a pleasant surprised when I stepped off the bus to pick up my car…

I really enjoy the office environment. It gives me the chance to learn from others and teach others – and just have conversations that you don’t get to have when you work from home…but I remembered today how much I dislike working in an office with all engineers…they’re absolutely no fun whatsoever…luckily, my buddy LiAnn came in to keep me company (she usually works from home here in Houston).

Okay, I love to travel, but doing it without my bride is no fun! I went to eat – alone! She may steal some of the cheese dip – but I’d rather share it with her anyway. I went back to the hotel room, worked for a bit and went to bed early. I did have one pleasant surprise when I went to AVIS to pick up my car…I’ll post some pics later.
Look at me…I’m in the office by 7:25 this morning! This is insane.

Our media guy (Freddy) and my wife found a little something in the back room of the mall this weekend:

I’m here… I’m not too crazy about flying SW, but it went smoothly – leaving a couple of minutes early and arriving 20 minutes early, which is good, because I made about 8 circles to find our office here. I just checked into the Extended Stay and I’m not too thrilled about it. I guess I’ve been spoiled by staying at Mariott’s and Doubletrees over recent months.
So far I haven’t done anything here I couldn’t have done at home, but I think my Business Unit director really wants to give me face-to-face time with project managers to secure myself for the future. I hope I have plenty of time to do that this week.
I’m about to go grab dinner, do some work and go to bed early. I’m tuckered out!
