Chel and I have dated since we were 16 and have been married for about 2 1/2 years now. I hear a lot of couples who like to have time away from each other, and a little can be good for most, I’m sure. In the past six months, we’ve had to take two trips each without each other…and that makes us sad. Chelsea left today for Arkansas and I won’t see her until Sunday afternoon. When she’s gone, I tend to be pretty pathetic…I miss her a lot and talk about her a ton…it’s just part of it. I’ve got tons of work to get done, so maybe I can keep my mind busy, but I sure will miss her for the next couple of days.
The other part of the disappointing day was the surprise call from my Business Unit (BU) Director to tell me that our project closes today and he won’t have solid work for me again until June 11th. Ouch! When you’re a one-income family, that can make things kind of tough – of course that’s why we have an emergency fund and that’s also why (though I didn’t know it at the time) I got a bonus. It’s actually attached to my next pay check, but that’s okay. I’m a contract employee, which means I stay busy most of the time – really busy, but when company overhead usually absorbs the hours of someone who’s a fulltime employee not on a project, I just don’t work. No work = no pay! Bummer! The Lord’s good and he’s definitely got the provision for us that we need, it just stinks that we won’t be able to use the bonus to pay off the car and start health insurance. But, it should only be delayed by a month or two b/c of this. No big deal! Just a reminder to be dependent on the Lord where I’ve become self-sufficient and be a good steward with what he has given us…cut the fluff for a couple of weeks and everything will come out just fine…
So here’s what we got from our next door neighbors for free:
Love Seat
Sofa
Chair
Ottoman
Futon
2 plants
A mirror
40 piece set of nice dishes with gold rim
20 piece “fall” set of dishes
Kitchen utensils (never opened)
10″ Electric skillet (never opened)
Every year or so I get the bug and try facial hair – and as always, it’s going nowhere. Chel always wants me to have facial hair (but she doesn’t like kissing me when I have it, hmmm….). This year I’m trying a goatee thing and let me just say, no one has even noticed. I take that back, Angela noticed, but in her words, it was because I was turned sideways and she could see my profile. Almost two weeks not shaving and no one even notices it. I’m gonna give it a couple more days and then it’s all coming off. Someday I’ll grow up, be a big boy, and be able to grow facial hair.
Yay! Tonight is group! Our next door neighbor (the producas) are moving out and they don’t want to take any furniture, so they’re giving us a bunch of furniture. Funny thing is we’ve been talking about going to the good will and buying some for a while now. We should have known the Lord would come through in his usual way. We look forward to seeing you tonight at 6:30. If you’ve been looking to get connected to a group at UC, you’re invited to drop by tonight at 6:30! Fresh salsa and guac and leftover b-day cake…seeya tonight!
A great big welcome to the newest member of the UC worship team: Denys Edmonson! Denys and I have been talking back and forth about her being a part of the team since January, and I suck! It’s taken me entirely too long to get her on the stage. She opened her mouth and this great big voice came out! I can’t wait to see how we’ll develop into a team with Denys as a part. Denys works as an office manager in Brentwood, but more importantly, she’s a mother and wife with a beautiful girl. Denys lives in Kingston Springs, and I think she’s been at UC since the very first week! Denys – we’re glad to have you! Good time ahead…
I had a great day! We met some friends at the Cumberland River and spent the day chillin’, grillin’, and ridin’ the boat. For those of you who know me well, you know that I hate the heat, and I hate sweating. I know, I know…I’m a pansy, but I need air conditioning. I am usually pretty miserable in the summer, but yesterday there was a fantastic breeze in the air and a boat ride up the Cumberland cooled me off.
We came home, took a shower and headed to Zach and Erika’s for her birthday! Our salsa and guac were a hit (as always) and we had a great time with new friends.
I do want to take a second to bring it back and say THANK YOU! Thank you to my great-grandfather who fought in WWII. Thanks to Buck who’s about to go back to Iraq for the 3rd time since the war began. Thanks to the tens of thousands who have given their lives for our freedom, and thank you to all the families that sacrificed their loved ones for us.
The more I listen to the album, the more I like it. I’m stuck on #2 (Break Free). I don’t think it’s congregationally friendly (at least not for UC) but I think we’re gonna rework it a tad and we’ll be ready to rock. Also listening a lot to #4 (Devotion) and I love the smooth sound of #6 (Lead me to the Cross). It sounds a lot like Chel playing the acoustic.
Just wanted to rescind my previous post…it gets better with every listen…
I love it when it’s Memorial Day and your attendance should drop by like 35% but it doesn’t, it goes up from last week. God is good!
Here’s this weekend’s set list:
E – Salvation (Passion / Chalie Hall)
F – Yesterday, Today, and Forever (Vicky Beeching / Vineyard)
A – Breathe (Vineyard)
A – Praises (Glenn Packiam / New Life Church)
A few shout outs for this weekend. Pastor Ray – thanks for the suggestion on Yesterday, Today and Forever. I wasn’t so sure about it at first, but it rocked. There’s a video below with some clips of it.
Dave and Joey – it was great to have you both on the stage and I’m looking forward to the many weeks to come.
Can I just say I’M SORRY! Any other worship leaders ever want to kick yourself for dragging your feet on a team member? You sounded fantastic this weekend and I can’t wait to see what will happen in coming months.
I used to be incredibly nervous when other worship leaders would show up when I was leading worship. These days I feel like they’re around all the time. I guess it’s time to get over the nerves and be secure in my calling…ouch!
